SACMEQ findings on whether learners stigmatize HIV/AID-infected peers

SACMEQ reviewed whether or not South African learners stigmatize their HIV infected peers. It found that:

  • Across all nine provinces, there are more learners who do not their HIV-infected peers than those who do.
  • The percentage of learners who do stigmatize their peers is 8.9%, with a higher number of them in Limpopo (31%).
  • Almost 60% of learners would not discriminate against their HIV-infected peers.
  • 31% of learners did not know if they would discriminate against their peers or not.
