With effect from 1 April 2011, the following fees are payable when registering a birth, and applying for birth and/or death certificates:

The first abridged birth or death certificate: Free.

To have an abridged birth or death certificate reissued (except where such certificate is required to register the birth of a child or a death, then it is free): R20.00.

Issuing an unabridged birth or death certificate: R75.00.

An application to change the forenames or surnames of a minor: R70.00.
