Draft code of practice on HIV/AIDS and employment published for comment

The Minister of Labour has published a draft Code of Good Practice on Key Aspects of HIV/AIDS in the World of Work for public comment. Comments must be submitted by the 26 September 2011 to the Minister. Unfortunately, the document does not provide a delivery address.

The Code applies to all workers, including those in an employment relationship, those in training, volunteers, jobseekers and laid-off or suspended workers.

The guiding principles of the Code are inter alia, respect for human rights, equality of opportunity and treatment, gender equality, the right to access and continue in employment, prevention, treatment, care and support, social dialogue and consultation, testing, confidentiality and disclosure.

The Code should be taken into account when developing, implementing or reviewing any workplace policies or programmes.
