A Children’s Act Guide for Child and Youth Care Workers
The CI and the NACCW have published a guide to the Children’s Act which provides an overview of provisions most relevant to child and youth care workers.
The various sections of the guide cover various topics, including:
- Definitions in the Act relevant to child and youth care workers;
- Terms and concepts that are used in the Act, but are not defined, such as “fit and proper person”;
- General principles of the Act such as “the best interests of the child”, “children’s participation” and “children with disabilities and chronic illnesses”;
- Compulsory reporting obligations of child and youth care workers;
- Rules regarding children found to be in need of care and protection;
- Child and youth care centres
- The role of child and youth care workers in foster care;
- Child-headed households, Prevention and Early Intervention Services and Protection measures relevant to children’s health.
