Call for entries in the UNICEF children’s broadcasting awards

UNICEF is calling for entries from broadcasters for the 2011 International Children’s Day of Broadcasting Awards. The ICDB Awards will go to the radio and television broadcasters whose programming best reflects the 2011 International Children’s Day of Broadcasting theme, Girls Are… Boys Are…, and which “demonstrate an overall dedication to youth participation in media”.

To qualify, broadcasts must have taken place on or around Sunday, 6 March 2011 in conjunction with the 2011 International Children’s Day of Broadcasting. The deadline for entries is 1 July 2011. Details and entry forms can be found at www.unicef.org/icdb.

The International Children’s Day of Broadcasting encourages broadcasters to produce programming by, with and for children. The ICDB Awards seek to promote youth participation in media and the creation of opportunities for young people to express themselves. The Awards honour broadcasters who make this possible.

The ICDB Award regional judging will take place in UNICEF’s 8 regions. Entries are due to UNICEF’s regional offices by 1 July 2011. Top-scoring entries in each region will compete for the global ICDB Award.

South African broadcasters have been among the Award’s previous winners.

The 2010 ICDB Awards went to Maputaland Community Radio Station (South Africa) for their programme “All Rights All Children,” as well as to Télévision Togolaise (Togo) for their programme “A nous la planete” and Voice of Nigeria for the programme “Kidddies Voices.”

The ICDB Regional Prizes for radio went to Maputaland Community Radio Station, as well as Radijojo gGmbH (Germany), All India Radio, Tejarat Radio (Iran), TRAXXfm, Radio Televisyen Malaysia, Radio y Televisión de Aguascalientes (Mexico), and Voice of Nigeria.
